2014 Color of the Year: Radiant Orchid

I’ll admit, I’ve been behind the eight-ball the past couple of weeks — in a holiday frenzy.  Luckily, Vanessa Francis alerted me that we, both, were wrong with forecasting Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year.  She and I were pretty confident that next year would be dictated by blues, so Pantone’s announcement last week about Radiant Orchid was really a bit of a surprise.

When I think about purple in interiors, I recall Meg Ryan’s beach house, the Harland Miller painting in Courtney Cox’s Malibu home, and Campion Platt.  There’s Timothy Haynes & Kevin Roberts’ high gloss purple library from the November 2011 cover of Elle Decor

In addition, Vanessa shares a few more rooms over, here.

As for purple in fashion…here’s a little round-up:

  1. Well, I should have known better! There hasn’t been a purple/lavender hue since Pantone started choosing the Colour of the Year in 2000. I’ll sharpen my skills for next year. :)

Thanks for the mention and hope you have a wonderful holiday Cecilia!

    • My methodology wasn’t well researched. It was purely a guess based on past Pantone Fashion reports. Game on for next year, Vanessa.
